Balancing School and Relationships

As high schoolers, we experience many things for the first time and one of those things may be a relationship. When you are in a relationship, not only do you need to make sure you are dedicating time to yourself and your education, but also that you are spending time with that person who makes you happy. At the end of the day, finding the right balance can be hard.

Communication is key

A key component to all relationships is communication. You need to be able to communicate your wants and needs and vice versa. By letting each other know what you need, you can establish clear boundaries and be able to discuss how you feel. Communicating your feelings and being on the same page as your partner will allow you to be able to focus on your school and personal life without feeling like your partner has little understanding.

Study together

If you are looking to spend more time together, but still want to be productive, studying together is always a great thing to do. Being able to collaborate and bounce ideas off each other will allow you to be motivated to get work done. Additionally, it’s always fun to have someone to work with! Just make sure to stay on topic, then reward yourselves with a break.

Plan accordingly

Plan out when you are going to do work, so you can figure out when you are free. Make sure in that free time, that you are leaving time for yourself and other parts of your life. By planning out when you will do your work, you leave room to plan for other activities. This makes sure that you are getting things done but also having time for your partner.

Don’t forget to take care of yourself and your goals

Being in a relationship is always fun, but make sure that it’s adding to your life instead of taking away from you. You should still be chasing your goals and aiming for those good grades, with your partner supporting you every step of the way. Be clear about your visions and make sure to take care of yourself too, not just your partner.
